Mary Taylor’s Wedding Planning Program for the DIY Bride

I am so excited that you found your way here today. I can’t wait to hopefully be a part of your wedding planning journey. Whether you have a wedding planner or not, this program is designed for every kind of bride.

This program was designed to help brides turn their checklist(s) into action steps. There’s nothing more daunting then getting a list of a hundred things to do and not knowing how to get through those checklist items. We know that some brides want or need a little guidance through their bridal journey.  Let’s break down those hundred to-dos and figure out when and how to accomplish them. In fact, let’s do all of that while still having fun!

So what is it exactly? Our DIY bridal course is a step-by-step wedding planning program designed by wedding planners, professionals, and brides. It is designed to help brides to stay organized and feel supported through live Q&A’s, resources, and help from wedding professionals. You’ll join other brides from around the world who are also passionate about creating their dream day as you all work through your to-do list together.

What’s Included?

💍 Timeline Checklist

💍 “Everything You Need” Wedding Checklist

💍 Custom email series based on your wedding date. This email series will help you to stay on track with wedding planning so you don’t fall behind. It includes direct links to resources that you will need to help you complete the checklist to-do items that you’re “assigned.”

💍 Access to our exclusive Facebook group which contains information on how to complete each step as well as more resources and information for each checklist to-do item.

💍 In the future, we want to feature wedding professionals who can give you real-life, up-to-date, and helpful advice as well as videos from other brides and wedding vendors.

💍 We also hope to include exclusive discounts and gifts for our members.

Who is it for?! Our wedding planning program is really for any bride that feels like they could use some help. This group and program really works well for the bride that WANTS to plan their wedding, knows what they want, doesn’t mind making the calls and doing the vendor comparison. She doesn’t need a full wedding planning package, but wants help along the way instead of just a day of coordinator. As a recent bride, I relied heavily on research, reading, and other brides experiences to help me plan my day. It was very time consuming to have to research everything myself which is why I want to help reduce that time for other brides. Think about it, we are all planning essentially the same event (yes, different traditions, different vendors, and different styles but a lot of the information is actually similar)!

How can I learn more and sign up?! Are you thinking, “Why haven’t I already signed up?! This sounds just like what I need!” Then you can purchase your admission directly on our website or on our Etsy shop.

If you’re a vendor and would like to learn more about how you can involved, please contact me directly. We always have opening for you to provide our brides with some value. We even have an affiliate program!

We can’t wait to see you there! Don’t forget to like us on Facebook, follow us on Instagram, and join Mary Taylor’s Wedding Deals.

Wedding Sign Inspiration & How To’s

Nowadays there seems to be a sign for everything – from welcome signs to unplugged wedding signs to bar signs! There are several ways to make and create wedding signs and do it on the cheap. You can use vinyl cut outs, paint, markers, or even just simply print and frame signs. First let’s look at some inspiration from other brides so you can get some ideas on what signs you could make and what look you may be going for:

This blog contains commissioned links. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. This means I may earn a small commission for purchases made through the links provided. I cannot see who purchases what and it doesn’t cost you anything!

Now that you’ve seen some inspiration, let’s discuss how you can create these looks!

First and foremost, one of the best ways to save money (and time) is by making your own vinyl cut outs using a Cricut machine. This machine is not only good for making signs but also for customizing anything (shirts, cups, etc) which can then save you money on gifts and more. If you want to check out the Cricut machine you can do so here.

Pallet signs are probably the cheapest signs you can make. They’re large and can hold a lot of information as well as most likely being free on the side of the road. For a pallet sign all you need is a pallet and vinyl cut outs (make them yourself with the Cricut or get some on Etsy) or paint to write in what you’d like. The pallet sign is great to make a timeline of wedding day events for your guests! You can also use the pallet to make a timeline of your relationship.

Another way to make a wedding sign is by using a plain piece of wood, Plexiglass, mirror or even a chalkboard which you can buy online and then buy or make your own vinyl cut outs (again, Cricut, Etsy, or Amazon. You can even find tons of great ideas on AliExpress). You could also paint directly on the wood, Plexiglass, or Chalkboard. If you’re in search of any of these items to buy online, join my Facebook group Mary Taylor’s Wedding Deals & Finds and let me know what you’re looking for!

Here are some good options for DIY paint (click on the image to bring you to Amazon to purchase/read more):

The most simple way to make DIY signs though is by printing out a pre-existing template (which can be found for super cheap on Etsy – link to wedding sign templates on Etsy). Then, you can frame the print out to make a sign! Here are some that I made and we used at our wedding too! You could also make your own signs using Word, Adobe, or Canva.

If you’re not much of a DIY purchase, you can also just buy your signs already made. Here are some examples (click the image to shop the look)!

Deciding Between a DJ & DIY Music

I feel like this topic didn’t used to be as much of an option as it is now. We are so lucky to have so many amazing music options at our finger tips. Now more than ever, we can DIY our music (and save tons of money doing it)! But is it worth it?!

I’ll be honest this was a topic that my fiancé and I struggled with as well! The only reason we ended up hiring a DJ was because a family friend of ours offered to pay for our DJ as a wedding gift. Of course we wanted a DJ from the start but we couldn’t justify the cost. Now that we have a DJ, I am so glad we have him and his team! We have struggled to even come up with a handful of songs that we want played let alone 5.5 hours worth of music. Organizing a wedding is hard enough without having to figure out who is going to announce speeches, provide speakers and mics, and more.

© |

Pros of a DJ:

  • You don’t have to worry about having an emcee!
  • You don’t have to worry about picking all your music (I am having a hard enough time deciding on 15 songs I want played let alone enough for 5.5 hours)
  • Saves you time! Imagine how much time you have to spend sorting, downloading, saving, etc. music
  • You don’t need to buy or rent your own equipment (lighting, speakers, microphone)
  • They help your day run smoothly by making announcements and helping the execution of your wedding day
  • They help to keep the crowd excited and involved
  • Peace of mind!

Cons of DJ:

  • They can be expensive
  • If you don’t choose the right one, they may play music that you don’t like or they may be pushy for guests to get up and dance
  • If guests don’t dance, it could feel like a waste of money

© |

Pros of Spotify/DIY Music:

  • It’s free or cheap (tip: sign up for a free 30-day trial of premium for your wedding day so you don’t have to pay for it and you won’t have ads playing in between songs)
  • You get to choose all of your music
  • You can give someone the honor of being your emcee

Cons of Spotify/DIY Music:

  • You have to have someone at your wedding be your emcee and manage all your music
  • You have to spend a lot of time choosing all music
  • You need to make sure you have enough music to keep guests entertained for the length of the event
  • Your emcee may not be professional and could therefore make things awkward, run late, or become unorganized (not Spotify’s program but an issue with not having a professional and present DJ to help)
  • You’ll need to purchase or rent lighting, speakers, and microphones and have someone set them all up ahead of time

I hope this helped you to better understand which way you’re leaning towards in terms of music for your wedding day. Don’t forget to like us on Facebook at Mary Taylor Weddings and join us for shopping fun and deals at Mary Taylor’s Wedding Deals & Finds

Kimberly’s DIY Bridal Shower

I love getting to write blogs about real brides – brides that are currently going through the motions of planning their wedding. When I saw Kimberly post a bunch of images from her bridal shower on Facebook, I had to talk to her! As I am planning my own bridal shower, I have been looking at Pinterest. But sometimes, it’s hard to envision it all coming together that beautifully. When I saw Kimberly’s post, I knew it was possible! Her bridal shower is 100% Pinterest-worthy! When we got chatting, I learned that Kim’s bridesmaids and aunts did everything themselves! Even the bath bombs. If you want to create a bridal shower like Kim’s, look out for links to products throughout. Check out our DIY bridal shower signs and games on Etsy here.

Chalkboard Signs:

When asked what her favorite part about the shower was, she says, “My favorite part of the bridal shower was being able to spend time with family. My fiancé’s family are all from New York and it is extremely rare that both of our families get to be together at the same time.” Because everything was 1. DIY and 2. absolutely gorgeous, I also wanted to know which of all the incredible decorations were her favorite. She said she LOVED the centerpieces, “the flower was gorgeous and the rose gold mason jars really added a nice accent. Our accent color in the wedding is going to be rose gold as well.” I love that they matched the bridal shower theme to the wedding theme! We are going to try to do the same for our wedding and shower as well. She said the bath bombs that her maid of honor made were also a huge hit and so was the pedicure in a jar (what to include below).

(Click the images above to view them larger)

DIY Pedicure Mason Jar – Mason jars: Super cute nail files: Q-tips: Bulk nail polish options:,, Nail polish remover pads (bulk): Nail clippers (bulk): Hershey’s Kisses:

Similar Chalkboard Sign: Similar Gifts & Cards:

Kim also gave me some really cool ideas for other brides’ bridal showers! She said they played the newlywed game. She had to answer questions about herself to try and match her fiancé’s answers. For every answer she got wrong, she had to stick a piece of bubblegum in her mouth! She says, “It was SO hilarious, I could barely even talk by the time the game was over. Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing because my fiancé said a lot of different answers than I did, but everyone sure got a kick out of it.”

Kim’s gorgeous dress (it even has pockets!):

One of her favorite moments of the shower was during gift opening. She says, “my aunt gave me the most emotional gift I’ve ever received in my life. My mom passed away over 9 years ago and she knows how hard it has been on me knowing that my mom isn’t able to be here for any of the most important times in my life. She had made me a pillow with my moms picture on it, and around her photo is lace that is made from her wedding dress. When I opened that gift the entire room, including me, was in tears. It was such an emotional, and sad, but beautiful moment.” How gorgeous is that?! Bridal showers are a great time to give personal and thoughtful gifts <3

I love that Kim’s shower included DIY projects, her family, funny games, and sweet moments like the one above. It sounds like the perfect bridal shower! The women who put together this event should be really proud of themselves. Congratulations to our bride-to-be, Kim! Thank you so much for allowing me to share about your beautiful and heartwarming bridal shower!

How To Create This Look: Alter Curtains & Greenery

You know those amazing Pinterest pictures that you see and think, “I want to create that too! It can’t be that difficult!” And then, you have to spend time not only figuring out how the heck you’ll do it but then need to find the best deals on those items to make it worth it? Let me help with that.

First, don’t forget to go like Mary Taylor Weddings on Facebook and join our deals group here. If you’re after more Pinterest ideas, you can follow me here.

For our first “create this look” I am starting with something that an actual bride reached out to me to help her create. I’d probably get regular curtains like the ones below and then just make sure you measure how long they need to be based on your gazebo/alter. Then, buy rope and greenery. Add flowers for an extra touch!

I also know how valuable the opinions and experiences of other brides are. Because I am currently planning, I am also coming across new deals all the time. It’s all about creating a community of brides that love shopping, love to get ideas from other brides, and love to share their own wedding day purchases. Don’t you sometimes just want to share your amazing deals you’ve found but can’t because your guests will see? This is the perfect place to save money, have fun, and meet other brides <3

I will even help you find what you’re looking for! So, what’s something that you’re unsure about or want help looking for?

DIY Wedding Projects

Bridesmaids gifts/bridesmaid boxes: get a nice box or basket and fill it with fun things to ask your friends to be your bridesmaids. Check for an upcoming blog about what to put in your bridesmaids proposal or gift boxes

Bathroom utility baskets: click here to read more about these and what to include.

Photo Booth props: Ruffled Blog has a blog with some suggestions here.

Napkin rings: the possibilities are endless but FabYouBliss gives you some ideas here. You can also use toilet paper rolls (cut in half) and decorate them with lace, tulle, sequins, etc.

Wedding cake stands: you can make a cake stand out of an upside down wine glass and a plate!

Bird feeder wedding favors: PolkaDotBride has some ideas here

Games: make your own large jenga, tic-tac-toe, cornhole, or more. To read more ideas on good DIY games click here.

DIY Decor:

Metal or wood archway

Floral arrangements: this is a great way to save money! You could make your bounteierres, flower crowns, bouquets and other arrangements using fake (or real) flowers!

Wine bottle or mason jar centerpieces: another great way to save money. Use items that you already have. To keep it simple, just remove the label. To make it even fancier, add lace, burlap, or even glitter to the outside of the bottles.

Wedding signs: with paint or vinyl print outs (using a Cricut cutter or by purchasing on Etsy or Wedding Apparel NZ) create signs showing guests where to go, the days events, and more. Here are some fun ideas of signs you could make: read here.

Table identifiers: there are SO many options on how you can DIY your own table indentifiers. Some good options include mini chalkboards, picture frames, mirrors, books,  bottles, mini wood rounds, and so much more!

Cork decor: have a bunch of extra wine corks laying around? Use them to make numbers, hearts, and sayings just by glueing them together. You can also use them for name cards!

Come back to this blog as I may update it even more as I find new projects. Also, make sure to like me on Facebook to see updates, deals, and advice! I also plan to share some of my own DIY projects once I get closer to my own wedding date <3

AliExpress Finds

** SPOILERS ** First of all if you’re a friend who will be attending our wedding, although I love your support and I am so glad you’re reading this blog… I am giving away some spoilers (which I would love to keep a surprise for you until our wedding day)! Definitely come check it out afterwards though! Thanks for understanding!

We all know how expensive weddings are. Some even say that prices get marked up just when using the word “wedding”. In order to have everything we wanted (and more) we learned to budget our wedding and shop frugally. One way we are doing this is through AliExpress. We actually loved it so much we buy several things from there now (not just wedding items). 99% of what we have ordered from AliExpress has not only arrived but also has been incredible quality. It is good to note that AliExpress items do take a long time to arrive because they are coming from China. However, if you have the time to, definitely check it out! Just don’t forget to make sure you have plenty of time.

In addition to using AliExpress, we also enrolled in Ebates. This gives us an extra 3% (or more if they’re running specials) back on every single purchase we make. If you click here to sign up you’ll even get an extra $10 for free!

Here is a list of all the things we have purchased so far (check back as I may update the list as I continue to buy things):

Boutonnieres & corsages:

Amazing quality! They definitely don’t look as fake as I thought and from a distance you won’t be able to tell at all! They had tons of options which I loved too.

Gold Bow tie:

We got two different gold ones to try them out. All of them were amazing quality!! They are long, thick, and absolutely perfect!

Probably the best find of all… my fiance’s ring:

Only downside they don’t have half sizes but this was amazing quality as well. Heavy and thick metal.

Customized ring box:

I am still not sure what I want to wear on my head so I purchased a few options:

Tiara 1:

Tiara 2:

Veil with lace detailing:

I haven’t received the veil yet but both the crowns look beautiful. They are heavy, quality material. I seriously cannot decide which one to wear!

Custom wood watches:

Engraving purchased separately:

Buy the watches and add on the engraving. Only issue we had was that the engraving had quotation marks on them instead of just the writing. We still need to reach out and see if they can send us another one free of charge. Remember when ordering something from another country to clarify with the salesperson that you’re on the same page. Other than that the quality is gorgeous and it comes with a box and cushion just like it’s pictured.

Earrings to match my engagement ring:

LOVE these! They match perfectly and look very high quality! I couldn’t find anywhere else in person that sold these.

Champagne balloon for bridal shower/bachelorette party:

Still waiting for these to arrive but super excited about them!

All of these are things we actually purchased for our wedding!

Some other items that I didn’t end up purchasing but they do have good reviews and/or recommended from other brides:

Long veils:

Team Bride/Bride to be sashes:

Bigger pack (only available in black):

Customized hip flask:

Customized bottle openers:

Lace table runner:

Heart banner:

Headpiece with cage:
