COVID Bride Turns Cancelled Wedding Into Photoshoot

The past several months have been extremely difficult on the entire wedding industry, brides, grooms, and families everywhere. With weddings being postponed and cancelled, it can leave couples feeling heartbroken. Bride Sophie didn’t want to let Covid ruin everything.

If you’re a bride or groom planning your wedding during this time and you’re feeling a bit lost, check out this blog to answer some of your big questions when it comes to planning your wedding during the Coronavirus. We’ve put together a ton of great tips to work through different scenarios.

When bride Sophie and her fiance, Luke, realized they wouldn’t be able to have their dream wedding overseas (from New Zealand to Spain), they decided to do something else to celebrate. Sophie says, “Myself and Fiance Luke were supposed to be married on June 5th, 2020. By the time we started to go into lock-down it was becoming clear that we would have to postpone our wedding ceremony in Spain. This wedding was for our European family and friends that we left behind when we moved to New Zealand three and a half years ago. We found it really hard to make the decision to postpone as it meant not only waiting another year (when I’d patiently waited 5 years for him to propose) but it also meant not seeing our family until then too. It was going to be really hard to carry on through the next couple of months, knowing we should have been getting ready for our wedding.”

Sophie says, “The nearer it got to THE date, and the harder it became, I realised it wasn’t just me this affected but a whole world of brides-to-be and there were heaps of brides out there now having home weddings or marrying in their backyard with family watching from cars (not exactly the day they had envisaged when they were little girls).”

That’s when Sophie had an idea! What if she gathered some of her favorite wedding vendors and put on a photoshoot?! It would help support local vendors who were struggling during the time as well. She planned the photoshoot to take place at the Winter Gardens Pavilion Cafe in Auckland, New Zealand. They even got to walk through the Wintergardens Conservatory. When I asked Sophie about her inspiration behind the photoshoot, she said it was based on an art piece she had seen online, “It made me think of the coral reef reflecting the sunlight through the sea’s blue waters. It’s an elegant yet natural tone and I felt it would work harmoniously with the passion for the shoot.” She says she used New Zealand’s beautiful nature as the backdrop because she felt it would really showcase “the authenticity of the spirit within the Kiwi culture of working together as a community.” This is one of the many reasons I was so excited to share this blog post with all of you and write about this incredible photoshoot. It’s amazing to support local businesses in such an unsettling time. To see Sophie’s full list of vendors, scroll to the bottom of this blog post.

She says her favorite part about the photoshoot was stepping back to get a look at the finalized shoot all put together. And I totally agree. It’s so satisfying to be there in that moment when everything is complete. When all the tiresome hours, decisions, and excitement finally come together. This is exactly how you will feel on your wedding day. You’ll finally be able to sit back, relax, and enjoy.

Thank you Sophie for sharing your story with us! We can’t wait to hear all about your official wedding day and share in the joy with you. To see Sophie’s full list of vendors, scroll to the bottom of this blog post.
